A toy library that brings joy to the people of Leicestershire has been awarded £1,000 by Persimmon Homes.
Shepshed Toy Library, which serves the Charnwood area of the county, loans toys to families, play groups and schools as well as offering play sessions to the public.
It has been given the money by the housebuilder as part of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme and will help sustain the toy library’s future.
Community Champions is a national programme where clubs, groups and good causes can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company has donated more than £1 million.
Vicki Turner, at Shepshed Toy Library, said: “We offer a safe and friendly environment for children and adults to play, learn and make new friends.
“We offer thousands of our items out to the community from swings and slides through to small world sets and specialist sensory toys.
“Our guided play sessions are increasingly popular and we cover matter from healthy eating to transport – and it’s all to help with a child’s education.
“Currently 200 children benefit from our service with some of them in area affected by economic and social deprivation.
“The donation from Persimmon Homes North Midlands is a massive boost for us and helps us continue our service to so many families.”
Nadine O’Dowd, sales director for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to help Shepshed Toy Library with this £1,000 donation.
“It is clear they have a passion for helping families and schools throughout the county and we hope the cash help keep them going for longer.
“They are deserved winners and it is important they remain a fixture for the community”
